PETA challenges Miss Universe
PETA was watching the latest Miss Universe contest, and they weren’t pleased. The most current pageant winner, Japan’s Riyo Mori, wore a full length fur coat at the Mexico City competition and PETA went into action.
Initial tries to reach Ms. Mori went unanswered, so PETA has stepped up the pressure. It’s asked its supporters, and those that feel that wearing fur as a fashion statement is wrong, to email Ms. Mori and ask her to make a public announcement denouncing the practice.
PETA asked Ms. Mori,
While this Miss Universe has taken the causes of HIV and AIDS prevention and efforts for a cure under her wing, it would be nice to see her make a stand on this issue as well. It’s not too much to make the statement and refuse to wear fur. The impact would further the cause and help the young women that follow her example understand the cruelty involved in this tasteless waste of innocent animals.
Mr. Bob Barker, and Ms. Alicia Silverstone have proven that being a celebrity does not mean you cannot promote a cause, or several of them. Hopefully we will see Ms. Mori, and all the various pageants take a responsible and meaningful stand on this issue once and for all.
And an email mentioning just that wouldn’t hurt either.
