There is a vigil in New York City for the recently deceased carriage horses. We received this email from Edita from Friendsof Animals

She said:

Our vigil for the carriage horses - will be at: the north end of Grand Army Plaza. This is equivalent to 60th St. and 5th Avenue - north of the statue - right at Central Park in Manhattan. 5:30-7:30 on Thursday, September 20th.

This week New Yorkers will pay their respects to Smoothie, Juliet and Spotty and the many other nameless carriage horses who have passed through the industry and who are no longer with us. This vigil comes on the heels of last week’s devastating death of Smoothie. Join Singer/Actress Nellie Mckay, the Coalition to Ban Horse Drawn Carriages, Friends of Animals and League of Humane Voters NYC and concerned New Yorkers to call attention to the industry’s inhumanity and to call for an end of it altogether.

WHAT: A stirring candlelight vigil to call attention to the inherent cruelty in the NYC carriage industry and to ask the Mayor and City Council to support legislation to ban this industry. WHY: To pay homage to carriage horse Smoothie who was killed last Friday, Juliet, Spotty and all the others not reported.
